(October 21, 2014) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close a section of MD 765 (HG Trueman Road) just south of Dowell Road in Solomons for up to three weeks beginning Monday, October 27. The closure is necessary for crews to install 30-inch drainage pipe under MD 765 and MD 2/4 (Solomons Island Road).

The total temporary closure of will help SHA expedite the drainage repair from an estimated six weeks with a flagging operation to less than three weeks using a continuous road closure, weather permitting.

The closure allows SHA to safely replace an obstructed drain pipe under MD 2/4 and reestablish effective stormwater management near the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department.  Several attempts to clear the old pipe were unsuccessful.  Work also includes open-trench pipe replacement across MD 765, filling the old pipe with concrete, patching/paving, reforestation and landscaping. Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists around the work zone.
This project is funded under a $2.2 million multi-project “areawide” system preservation contract awarded to Concrete General of Gaithersburg.  Nearly 8,200 vehicles travel this stretch of MD 765 each day.

Customers with questions about this project may contact the District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603 or by email at shadistrict5@sha.state.md.us.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
