UPDATE (February 13, 2015)- This work has been postponed.

(February 10, 2015) – Traffic on US 29 in Columbia will be stopped for periods of up to 15 minutes during overnight hours on Saturday night to allow removal of overhead power lines. The closures will take place between midnight Saturday, February 14, and 2 a.m. Sunday, February 15, in the area between MD 32 and MD 175.

These temporary closures will allow crews to remove a Baltimore Gas and Electric overhead power line that is being relocated as part of a Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) construction project. The relocation will make way for new sound barriers that will be constructed along northbound US 29 in conjunction with roadway widening. The overhead line is being replaced with an underground line.  Maryland State Police will assist with the temporary closures.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
