(March 9, 2015) –Beginning tonight at 9 p.m. (weather permitting), the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close traffic lanes on I-95 / I-495 (Capital Beltway) Inner Loop between US 1 (Baltimore Avenue, exit 25) and MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue, exit 23).  In case of inclement weather, the work would be performed tomorrow night.

SHA will close a single left lane at 9 p.m., two lanes at 10 p.m. and three lanes at 11 p.m. until the work is complete. All lanes of traffic will reopen no later than 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

Preventative maintenance includes diaphragm, concrete, abutment, bridge support and bridge joint work on the I-95/I-495 span above CSX and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) railway tracks. The work began in spring 2014.

Residents and travelers are advised that construction equipment can be loud and disruptive.

As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone.
