(March 10, 2015) – All lanes of northbound I-95 at MD 198 in Prince George’s County are open following a crash this morning involving an overturned tanker truck.  Southbound I-95 remains closed with a detour diverting motorists onto Konterra Drive (south of MD 198) then back onto southbound I-95. Southbound I-95 traffic delays extend back to MD 216 (about three miles) but are likely to increase as rush hour approaches.

The State Highway Administration (SHA) lifted all construction work and lane closures on nearby routes to accommodate additional traffic from the diversions. As of 2:30 p.m. crews had uprighted the tanker and transferred the fuel to another vehicle. The Maryland Department of Environment (MDE) is on site and in charge of cleanup and containment of the fuel that leaked from the tanker. The cleanup is likely to extend into the afternoon rush hours.  SHA suggests southbound US 29, MD 295 or US 1 as alternate routes and allowing additional travel time for the extra traffic volumes. As soon as the cleanup is complete, SHA will reopen the interstate to traffic.
