WHAT:

The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is continuing design work on the MD 500 (Queens Chapel Road) Community Safety and Enhancement project in Hyattsville and Mount Rainier in Prince George’s County. This project will address traffic demands while improving pedestrian, transit and bicycle travel in the surrounding areas. Work will extend from the Washington D.C. line on Queens Chapel Road to MD 208 (Hamilton Street).

SHA will present the current project design details, and representatives will be available to answer project-related questions. Attendees may arrive at any time during meeting hours and walk through the display area at your own pace. A brief presentation will begin at 6:15 PM.

Construction is also underway along MD 500 between MD 208 and MD 410 (East-West Highway).  This project began in 2014 and includes constructing sidewalks, crosswalk and pedestrian signal improvements, adding bike lanes and converting an existing painted median into a landscaped median from MD 208 (Hamilton Street) to MD 410 (East West Highway). To improve intersection operations, crews are also installing a double-left turn movement from northbound MD 500 onto Belcrest Road. SHA will have a representative available to address construction-related questions.
