(June 4, 2015)  –  Drivers should be prepared for possible delays on I-68 and I-70 in the Hancock area due to a right-lane closure on westbound I-68 for a paint spill clean-up. The right lane of westbound I-68 will be closed west of Hancock at mile marker 78 through 9 p.m. tonight and again from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the company performing the cleanup. If necessary, the cleanup may continue into Sunday or beyond during the same hours.

The closures are in response to a Wednesday-night crash in which a truck overturned near the Sandy Mile Road overpass, spilling more than 6,500 gallons of paint on the roadway,  shoulder and into the ground adjacent to the right shoulder . The crash resulted in a temporary road closure with a detour until crews could clear and reopen the left lane of westbound I-68 early Thursday.

The remaining right lane closures will allow cleanup including applying an abrasive mix, scraping the material from the road, and temporarily removing the guardrail to allow cleanup along the roadside.  SHA crews will replace the guardrail after cleanup of the soil is completed.
