(January 5, 2016) - The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is moving forward with the $32 million I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) widening project between Exit 30, MD 41 (Perring Parkway) and Exit 31, MD 147 (Harford Road).

To create a safer work zone for construction crews and motorists, crews will temporarily close interchange ramps and travel lanes for guardrail installation, pavement work and a ramp traffic shift on I-695 beginning Wednesday night, January 6.  The lane and ramp closures / detours are as follows:

  • Ramp from westbound I-695 (Beltway outer loop toward Towson) to northbound MD 41 and a single right lane on the outer loop of I-695 between MD 147 and MD 41 will close between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 5 a.m. Thursday (guardrail installation);

  • Ramp from westbound I-695 to northbound MD 41 and two right lanes will close between 10 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday (outer loop pavement work);

  • Ramp from eastbound I-695 (Beltway inner loop toward Essex) to southbound MD 147 will close between 10 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday and again 10 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday (ramp traffic shift for upcoming storm drain work).

If there is inclement weather, crews will perform the work the next possible night.   SHA urges motorists to plan for extra travel time on I-695 in Parkville and look ahead for lane and ramp closures and ramp detour signs at Exits 30 and 31.

The ramp work will be complete 5 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, weather permitting.  In case of inclement weather, the ramp work and detours will take place the next possible weeknight.  For the latest commuter information, log onto www.md511.org.
