Lane Closures and Traffic Impacts on I-695 Monday Night; SHA Advises Motorists to Plan for Extra Travel and Consider Alternate Routes

(March 25, 2015) – Weather permitting, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will shift lanes to traffic on the bridge carrying northbound I-695 (Baltimore Beltway inner loop) over Milford Mill Road on or after Monday night, March 28.  The traffic shift on the inner loop is part of SHA’s $22.4 million construction project to replace the inner loop and outer loop bridges over Milford Mill Road, located between Exit 18, MD 26 (Liberty Road) and Exit 19, I-795 (Northwest Expressway).

Crews will need to work from 7 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 29 to safely shift traffic on the bridge.  Motorists should expect single, double and triple lane closures beginning at 7 p.m. Monday on the inner loop of I-695 between Liberty Road and I-795.  After 12 a.m. Tuesday, Maryland State Police (MSP) may also stop all traffic on the inner loop and the interchange ramps from Liberty Road to the inner loop for 15 minutes at a time while construction crews relocate the travel lanes on the bridge.

Overnight Lane Closure/Traffic Drag Schedule:

Monday

7 p.m.                        Single right lane closure on inner loop

10 p.m.                      Double right lane closure on inner loop

11 p.m.                      Triple right lane closure on inner loop

Tuesday

12 a.m. – 2 a.m.

MSP traffic drags and temporary stops on all four travel lanes on the inner loop and the ramps from Liberty Road to the inner loop.  Traffic will be stopped for up to 15 minutes at a time

2 a.m. – 5 a.m.

Lanes on bridge re-open in reverse sequence

5 a.m.

All lanes on I-695 inner loop bridge and the Liberty Road interchange ramps to the inner loop are open to traffic.

In case of inclement weather, the inner loop bridge traffic shift will be performed on the next possible weeknight (Tuesday – Thursday).

Weather permitting, SHA will shift lanes on the southbound I-695 (outer loop) bridge later this spring on a date to be announced.  The entire bridge replacement project will be complete late fall 2016.  SHA’s contractor for the project is Allan Myers Inc. of Dover, DE.
