(May 12, 2016) – On Monday, May 16, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will re-open the MD 175 eastbound ramp from northbound US 29, weather permitting.  Crews closed the ramp fall 2015; the ramp has been realigned, reconstructed, paved and striped. Additionally, crews built sound walls, drainage systems and landscaped the area.

The improvements are part of the $26 million project to widen northbound US 29 between south of Seneca Drive to south of MD 175 in Columbia.  SHA is widening and resurfacing northbound US 29 from MD Route 32 to MD Route 175. The 3.19 mile project is scheduled to be completed fall 2016, weather permitting. SHA’s contractor for the project is Allan Myers Inc. of Worcester, PA.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.

A complete listing of current roadway projects is included in e-Road Ready 2016, the online brochure. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.
