Motorists Should Expect Double Right Lane Closures through the Weekend

(June 1, 2016) – To make necessary pavement repairs, on Friday, June 3, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will close the two right lanes through the weekend on eastbound I-70 between east of MD 27 (Ridge Road)  and MD 94 (Woodbine Road)

Crews will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday and continue straight through until 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.  Crews will grind (remove the top layer of pavement), patch, and resurface the roadway.  SHA will use arrow panels, barrels, cones and signs to direct traffic through the work area.

SHA awarded the $600,000 pavement repair project to CJ Miller, LLC. of Hampstead.

Motorists are encouraged to consider using MD 27 (Ridge Road) to MD 144 (Old National Pike) as an alternate route and allow extra travel time for traveling.

Lanes may be narrow during construction. Special accommodations will be made for wide load trucks.  Those who may be hauling a wide load through this area should call project manager Chuck Triesh Jr. at 240.409.7506 for assistance.

As a reminder there is an active work zone between Frederick and Mt. Airy and on eastbound I-70 between Marriottsville Road and the Baltimore County line.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.

A complete listing of current roadway projects is included in e-Road Ready 2016, the online brochure. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.
