(June 17, 2016) - This afternoon, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will close lanes on the inner loop of I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) near MD 450 (Annapolis Road) in Prince George County for emergency bridge deck repairs.

Crews are closing three of four lanes this afternoon to place a steel plate on the deck (riding surface) of the bridge above an AMTRAK railroad crossing. SHA crews will begin closing lanes this afternoon and all lanes will reopen after midnight Saturday (no later than 5 a.m.)  Motorists should consider using alternate routes and expect heavy delays through the Friday afternoon rush hour.

The damage/pothole on the bridge was discovered during routine maintenance activities. Once crews secure steel over the area and it is safe for travel, crews reopen all traffic lanes.

Crews will return to perform comprehensive deck repairs on Monday beginning at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. each subsequent morning.  Motorists should plan for extra commute time as crews will close three lanes each night until repairs are complete.
