Motorists Should Expect Single Daytime and Nighttime Lane Closures

(July 14, 2016) – Beginning next week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface more than five miles of MD 140 (Taneytown Pike) between Royer Road and Mayberry Road.  Weather permitting, the $3.6 million project will be complete late fall.

SHA’s contractor, CJ Miller, LLC. of Hampstead, will patch, grind (remove the top layer of pavement), resurface, restripe the pavement and install new guardrail.  Drivers should expect single lane closures Sundays through Thursdays from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m.  Crews may also close one lane Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., flagging operations and lane shifts.

Approximately 17,000 vehicles use this section of MD 140 each day so motorists should plan extra travel time during work.  SHA will use barrels, dynamic message signs and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
