SHA Opens Bridge Ahead of Schedule

(August 15, 2016) – Last Friday, August 12, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) reopened the MD 135 bridge over the CSX Railroad in Swanton.

The project to replace the deteriorated concrete bridge deck (riding surface) of the bridge, replace the walls of the bridge (parapets), repair concrete supports, clean and paint the structural steel, and pave the roadway began on June 13.

Although the bridge is re-open to traffic, a flagging operation will be used while crews complete final stages of the project.  The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) reminds drivers to adhere to the posted speed limits and remain alert while driving.  Those who have questions about SHA projects in Garrett County may call the SHA District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or send email to shadistrict6@sha.state.md.us
