Game Starts at 7 p.m. and Parking Opens at 2 p.m.; Afternoon Rush Hour Affected

(September 9, 2016) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is advising commuters that Monday afternoon rush hour in Prince George’s County near FedEx Field could be extremely congested, due to an early 7 p.m. start for Monday Night Football.

“If you regularly commute on I-95/I-495 in the Landover area, make a game plan to avoid traffic delays, such as taking transit, telecommuting, or driving different routes,” said SHA District 3 Engineer Brian Young.  “For those headed to the game, allow plenty of time to get there for kickoff.  No one wants to listen to the game on the radio stuck in traffic when you have tickets to be there in person.”

Drivers coming from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge wishing to travel north toward Baltimore may want to consider using eastbound MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) to northbound US 301/MD 3 (Crain Highway) to northbound I-97 to I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) to northbound I-95.

SHA will begin nighttime projects after 9 p.m., well after kickoff, and crews will work in areas that should not impact traffic leaving the stadium.  Additionally, SHA will station emergency patrols to assist stranded motorists and keep traffic moving on the major roads leading to and from FedEx Field.

SHA recommends that travelers headed to northern Virginia use I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Montgomery County across the American Legion Bridge to avoid game-related delays.
