Agency’s Public Service Announcements Could Win People’s Telly Awards

(May 31, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is seeking ratings for its two public service announcements addressing work zone and bicycle safety. The agency’s 30-second videos are up for People’s Telly Awards, which honor excellence in local, regional and cable TV commercials.

Work Zone Safety Video

The “Work Zone Safety” video shows crews working on an active site in Baltimore County and identifies each worker individually as a baseball coach, uncle or parent. It ends with children chanting, “Be alert. Our parents are at work.”

Cyclist Video

A Bicyclist Could Be Someone You Know” aimed to raise awareness that bicyclists are real people, instead of nuisances on the road. It featured testimonials from real-life Maryland professionals who also bike.

Currently, both videos are in the ratings period. To add a rating for “Work Zone Safety” click here and here for “A Bicyclist Could Be Someone You Know.”

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 to honor excellence in local, regional and cable TV commercials. On average, the Telly Awards receives over 13,000 entries yearly from all 50 states and five continents.

Earlier this year, “A Bicyclist Could Be Someone You Know" earned an American Business Award. MDOT SHA’s electronic brochure, e-Road Ready 2017, and its Twitter feed (@MDSHA) also received these awards, known as “Stevies.”
