Damaged Pipe to be Replaced; Motorists to be Detoured for One Month

(June 22, 2017) –  Beginning Monday, June 26, The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project to replace a damaged culvert pipe on MD 335 (Golden Hill Road) approximately 1.5 miles south of Hip Roof Road.  The work requires MDOT SHA to close MD 335 between MD 336 (Blackwater Road) and Hip Roof Road; local traffic will be able to access the roadway on either side of the closure.  Weather permitting, the nearly $90,000 repair will be completed by the end of July.

“This was an unexpected repair that was discovered and MDOT SHA is working hard to replace the damaged pipe and reopen MD 335 as soon as possible,” said MDOT SHA District Engineer Jay Meredith. “By closing the road and detouring traffic, our crews can repair the pipe quicker.”

In addition to installing a new concrete culvert, MDOT SHA will pave and restripe MD 335 at the repair site.  During the pipe replacement, MDOT SHA’s contractor, Metro Paving Corporation of Hyattsville, will direct motorists from MD 335 to use Smithville Road and Hip Roof Roads back to MD 335.  Approximately 1,300 motorists use this section of MD 335 each day so drivers should plan extra travel time.

Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.
