Resurfacing and Guardrail Repairs Planned for Spring

(June 29, 2017) – Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) continues to improve roads in Maryland.  MDOT SHA is beginning a more than $12 million project to resurface sections of several routes in Carroll, Howard and Frederick counties.  Each of the projects listed below will last a few weeks to a month and will be complete late fall or early spring 2018, weather and progress permitting.

• Westbound I-70 between the Howard County line and the Frederick County line/Two miles at $1.7 million.

 

• MD 77 (Middleburg Road) between the Frederick County line and MD 194 (Francis Scott Key Highway)/Two miles at $850,000.

 

• MD 97 (Littlestown Pike) between MD 496 (Bachmans Valley Road) and Old Hanover Road/Four miles at $2.6 million.

 

• MD 31 (New Windsor Road) between the New Windsor rail crossing and the Frederick County line/Three miles at $300,000.

 

• MD 407 (Marston Road) between MD 31 and MD 27 (Ridge Road)/Four miles at $400,000.

Frederick County

• MD 194 (Woodsboro Pike) between the Carroll County line and MD 550 (Woodsboro Road)/5.5 miles at $2 million. 

 

• MD 550 between MD 77 (Rocky Ridge Road) and US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway)/2 miles at $1.1 million.

 

• MD 80 (Fingerboard Road) between MD 75 (Green Valley Road) and the Montgomery County line/3 miles at $1.4 million.

• MD 32 between Amberwoods Way and Day Road/1.5 miles at $713,000.

• US 29 (Columbia Pike) at the Johns Hopkins Road/ Gorman Road interchange (including on and off ramps)/ $961,000.

 

Motorists should expect daytime single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.  Crews are also permitted to work at night between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sundays through Friday mornings.    MDOT SHA’s contractor, C.J. Miller, LLC. of Hampstead, will use cones, barrels and flaggers to guide motorists through the work zones. 

 

MDOT SHA is completing the work through an area-wide contract.  This approach allows engineers flexibility to address deteriorated pavement conditions on multiple roads simultaneously across the region.  In addition to the resurfacing; crews will replace damaged guardrail.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver should actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
