Resurfacing Projects About to Get Underway in Allegany and Washington Counties
(August 2, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is resurfacing numerous roads in Allegany and Washington counties. The nearly $3 million in resurfacing projects will be completed over the next two years.
Crews will patch, mill (remove the top layer of pavement), pave and restripe the lanes. MDOT SHA will work on the following roads:
Allegany County ($1 million)
• US 40 Scenic (National Pike) between west of Mann Road to the Washington County Line in Orleans (2.2 miles); and
• MD 948 (High Germany Road) between US 40 and the Washington County Line in Little Orleans (one-half mile).
MDOT SHA’s contractor is Belt Paving of Cumberland.
Washington County ($2.6 million)
• MD 903 (Mountain Road) between the ramp at westbound I-68 and National Pike in Hancock (1.1 miles);
• US 40 (Cumberland Street) between Boyd Road and MD 68 (South Mill Street) in Clear Spring (one-half mile); and
• US 40 (Dual Highway) between Redwood Circle and Landis Spring Creek in Hagerstown (1.6 miles).
MDOT SHA’s contractors are P & W Excavating, Inc. of McConnellsburg, PA and C. William Hetzer, Inc. of Hagerstown.
Crews may need to close one lane and control traffic with flaggers Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Sundays through Friday mornings between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to add extra travel time during work hours.
