Project Includes Safety and Roadway Improvements
(September 21, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is gearing up to begin a safety and resurfacing project on
US 1 (Baltimore Avenue) between MD 200 (ICC) and Oak Street in Prince George’s County. The $3.3 million project should be complete by the end of the year.
MDOT SHA’s contractor, Allan Meyers Maryland of Fallston, will perform the following work:
• Patching, paving and restriping all lanes on the 1.7-mile section of US 1;
• Repairing and replacing damaged existing curb and gutter and sidewalk;
• Replacing drainage inlets and cleaning drainage pipes;
• Installing roadway concrete bus pads;
• Upgrading traffic signals with LED signal heads; and
• Striping for bicycle-compatible lanes.
Motorists can expect single lane closures US 1 Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and two lanes Sunday nights through Friday mornings between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. MDOT SHA may also close a single lane for concrete bus pad installation between 9 p.m. Fridays until 5 a.m. Mondays. During bus pad installation, motorists may not see crews working while the concrete is curing to obtain necessary traffic-bearing strength.
Crews will use barrels, cones and arrow boards to guide motorist through the work zone. Approximately 39,000 vehicles travel this section of US 1 daily so motorists should allow extra travel time during construction.
