Daytime Single Lane Closures Likely; Motorists Should Plan Extra Travel Time

(October 6, 2017) – Next week, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project to replace aging guardrail along a more than eight-mile section of US 50 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) between the Severn River Bridge and Oceanic Drive. The $2.6 million will be complete spring 2018.

MDOT SHA will also replace guardrails at the MD 2/MD 450 (Ritchie Highway), Bay Dale Drive, MD 179 (Cape St. Claire Road) and Oceanic Drive interchanges. Guardrail along the access roads at Busch’s Frontage Road, Whitehall Road, Skidmore Drive and East College Parkway will also be upgraded.

Work will begin on the section of US 50 closest to the Severn River Bridge and move east, which will help reduce construction-related delays with the US 50/Severn River Bridge lane widening project that is underway.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Long Fence Company, Inc. of Odenton, are permitting to close a single lane, Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists will be guided through the work with barrels, cones and arrow boards.
