Motorists Should Expect Brief Total Traffic Stoppages on MD 234 on October 12 & 13

(October 10, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is planning to set structural steel for the new MD 234 (Budds Creek Road) Bridge over Gilbert Run Swamp in Allens Fresh. On October 12 and 13, MDOT SHA will hold traffic for 15-minute increments between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on MD 234 at the bridge, which is currently being alternated by a temporary traffic signal to guide traffic across during construction.

The brief stoppages are necessary to ensure safety of motorists during cranes operations to set the structural steel onto the new bridge. Click here for more information about the project. The $4.7 million project will be built by Rustler Construction, Inc. of Upper Marlboro and will be complete fall 2018.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
