Motorists Should Reduce Speed and Stay Alert

(October 31, 2017) – Starting November 6th, The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will construct a new exit ramp (spur ramp) from northbound US 29 (Columbia Pike) to westbound MD 175 (Little Patuxent Parkway) in Columbia. The $1.9 million project will be complete spring 2018.

“MDOT SHA thanks area drivers in advance for your patience when traveling through the construction zone,” said MDOT SHA District Engineer John Concannon. “Please slow down and stay alert for work crews.”

The project will help to improve traffic flow and safety at this busy interchange. MDOT SHA’s contractor Allan Myers of MD. Inc. of Fallston., will also install a new traffic signal at the intersection, improve drainage and resurface the existing ramp.

Most of the work on the project will take place behind temporary barrier wall, which will reduce construction-related delays. Once the new ramp to westbound MD175 is constructed, the current ramp will be closed.

Approximately 116,000 motorists use this section of US 29 each day.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
