Bridge Maintenance Work Completed Nearly Two Weeks Ahead of Schedule

(January 22, 2018) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is opening the MD 436 (Ridgely Avenue) Bridge over Weems Creek in Anne Arundel County following repairs and maintenance. The swing bridge has been closed to traffic since January 2 and expected to remain closed until early February.

“We appreciate residents’ patience during the closure,” said District 5 Engineer Corren Johnson. “The repairs made this winter will help prevent issues during the summer when there are frequent bridge openings for marine traffic.”

Work on the project included repairing the hydraulic system, which will reduce the likelihood of unplanned repairs related to issues with the mechanical elements of the swing span structure. Crews also performed routine maintenance while the bridge was closed to ensure smooth operation for the upcoming boating season.
