(March 8, 2018) – Next week, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will close multiple lanes in both directions, including brief overnight total closures, on I-495 (Capital Beltway) between MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) and MD 185 (Connecticut Avenue). The closures are necessary for crews to set structural steel on the Seminary Road Bridge over I-495 (Capital Beltway). The steel beam setting should be complete by the end of the month, weather permitting.

Beginning Tuesday night, March 13 at 9 p.m. crews will begin with single lane closures, double lane closures at 10 p.m. and brief total stoppages at 11 p.m.  All lanes will open by 5 a.m. each subsequent morning. No work will be performed on Friday or Saturday nights.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
