The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administartion (MDOT SHA) is advising motorists to use extra caution in Allegany, Garrett, Washington, Frederick and sections of western Montgomery County early Saturday morning.

A large area of rain will move in from the west. Although air temperatures will rise with the storm, elevated sections of roadway, such as bridges, ramps and overpasses may still have surface temperatures that are below freezing and can become icy.

MDOT SHA crews are deploying early Saturday morning to patrol for icy conditions and treat accordingly.

MDOT SHA is advising motorists to monitor pavement conditions before heading out and make smart travel decisions. For real-time travel information and access to hundreds of traffic cameras. Log onto http://www.md511.org/.

Citizens are also invited to try out MDOT SHA’s latest web application called STORM (Statewide Transportation Operations Resources Map.) This will allow citizens to see where MDOT SHA and contractor equipment is in real-time.
