(June 19, 2019) - Beginning tonight at 8 p.m., the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will mill and resurface the right lane on eastbound I-68 (National Freeway) between MD 658 (Vocke Road) and US 220 south (McMullen Highway), a distance of 2.3 miles. The road improvement will be complete by 6 a.m. Friday, June 21, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect off-peak single lane closures. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Belt Paving of Cumberland, will use construction barrels and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone. Approximately 38,500 vehicles per day use this section of I-68, so motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes in the region during the road repair.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
