Utility Work Will Create Temporary, 15-Minute Full Stoppage on Northbound and Southbound I-270 near Clarksburg

(August 6, 2019) – Beginning Wednesday at 11:50 p.m., the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will assist Verizon with short-term total stoppages on both directions of I-270 south of MD 109 (Old Hundred Road) (near the truck scales) in northern Montgomery County. The stoppages are necessary for the utility company to string overhead wires as a result of recent storm damage. The brief total closures will be intermittent, and all lanes will open by 5 a.m. Thursday.

Overnight travelers should expect brief closures and plan extra drive time. Motorists may want to consider using MD 355 (Frederick Road) as an overnight alternate route.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
