(August 13, 2019) – On Sunday, August 11, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) began patching, milling and resurfacing several roads in the La Vale. The $1.6 million dollar project will be complete early-September.

Motorists can expect single lane closures on US 40 Alternate (National Pike), MD 53 (Winchester Road) and MD 658 (Vocke Road) Sunday nights through Friday mornings between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Crews will begin on MD 658. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Belt Paving, of Cumberland, will use traffic barrels, signs and occasional flaggers to guide motorists through the work zone.

Approximately 14,000 vehicles use these roads each day, but traffic volumes are lower during the overnight hours. Motorists and commercial drivers are encouraged to allow extra commuting time during construction. Click here for more information on the overall project.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
