Weekend Closure and Detour Necessary to Replace Two Culvert Pipes

(September 17, 2019) – On Friday, September 27, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project to replace two pipes under MD 383 (Broad Run Road) between east of St. Marks Road and west of Corun Road in Jefferson. Broad Run Road will be closed and detoured from 7 p.m. Fridays through 5 a.m. Mondays during the weekends of September 27 and October 4 to expedite the project. Beginning Monday, October 7, work on the culverts will be performed under a flagging operation. The project is expected to be complete by the end of November.

The existing metal pipes that carry branches of Catoctin Creek under MD 383 are nearing the end of their service life and need replacement. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Franco’s Liberty Bridge, Inc. of Clinton will replace the pipes with elliptical reinforced concrete pipes. The $350,000 project also includes paving and striping MD 383 in the project limits.

Motorists will be guided around the weekend closures using MD 180 (Jefferson Pike), US 340 and MD 17 (Burkittsville Road).

Approximately, 2,000 motorists use this section of MD 383 every day.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.
