Drainage Inlet Work to Continue into Evening; Motorists Urged to Consider US 11 (E. Potomac Street) as an Alternate Route

(November 1, 2019) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is closing the left lane on southbound I-81 at the Potomac River (Maryland/West Virginia line) in Williamsport for emergency drainage inlet repair. The project should be complete this evening.

Motorists should consider using US 11 (East Potomac Street) into West Virginia, then merge back onto southbound I-81. Approximately 64,000 vehicles, including more than 15,000 trucks, use this section of I-81 each day.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for motorists, as well as our crews. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
