(April 13, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project Friday, April 14, to improvement the pavement on US 40 (National Pike) between MD 66 (Mapleville Road) and east of Greenbrier State Park near Boonsboro in Washington County. The project should be complete by the end of May, weather permitting.

The project includes patching and resurfacing of the existing roadway and installation of new pavement markers. Drivers can expect daily single-lane closures 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. A flagging operation will be in place to guide motorists through the work zone. C. William Hetzer Inc., of Hagerstown, will perform the work.

The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience, but is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable highway system. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.

As the spring season arrives, drivers are urged to remain vigilant for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. Remember, motorcycles can be hidden from view in vehicle blind spots. Look twice and save a life. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
