Motorists Should Expect Single-Lane Closures, Flagging Operation

(April 20, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin the final resurfacing and striping on US 50 (Ocean Gateway) near Vienna in Dorchester County on Monday, April 24. This work near the Otter Pond Branch is expected to be complete by Monday, May 1, weather permitting.

Starting Monday and through the following week, crews will work daily 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. During these work hours, motorists can expect single-lane closures, lane shifts and a flagging operation. Temporary traffic signs, reflective barrels and electronic arrow boards will alert and guide motorists through the work zone.

This resurfacing work will conclude a pipe replacement project that began in October. Learn more about the project here. Contractors David A. Bramble of Chestertown, and Zone Striping Inc. from Glassboro, N.J., are performing the work.

The State Highway Administration is asking residents and businesses for their cooperation during paving operations. Hot asphalt may require up to two hours to cool before drivers and pedestrians can safely cross the new road surface.

As spring arrives, all motorists are urged to remain vigilant for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. Remember that motorcycles can be hidden from view in vehicle blind spots. Please look twice and save a life. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
