Motorists Can Expect Overnight Lane Closures on Capital Beltway

(May 31, 2023) –  The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project on Sunday, June 4, to perform overnight bridge maintenance and repairs on I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) under MD 337 (Forestville Road) and under Auth Road in Prince George’s County. Repairs will be complete by late June, weather permitting.

All work will be performed overnight, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Crews will start with repairs to the Forestville Road bridge, with each location taking approximately a week to complete. Crews will use roadway signs, cones, and barrels to alert motorists about lane closures and bridge work.

For the Forestville Road bridge over I-95/I-495, crews will close the two right lanes on the outer loop of I-95/I-495 (northbound) and one lane on the inner loop of I-95/I-495 (southbound).

For the Auth Road bridge over I-95/I-495, crews will close the two left lanes on the outer loop of I-95/I-495 (northbound) and two left lanes on the inner loop of I-95/I-495 (southbound) to perform the necessary repairs.

The State Highway Administration understands the lane closures will be inconvenient for some motorists, but the work is necessary to maintain the transportation system for all. Motorists are asked to stay alert and be patient as they pass through the work zone. Customers with questions may contact the District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737.
