Motorists Can Expect Single-Lane Closures and to Plan Extra Travel Time

(February 15, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will close the right lanes on both eastbound and westbound I-68 (National Freeway) beginning Monday, February 19.

The closures are necessary for crews to remove erosion and sediment controls from the previous work on Sideling Hill. The eastbound closure will last through February 28, the westbound closure is expected to take one day (February 19), weather permitting.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Carl Belt, Inc. of Cumberland, will perform the work Mondays through Fridays 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Crews will be using signs, and construction barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.  Motorists are asked to allow extra time for their Western Maryland commute.

The State Highway Administration appreciates our customer’s patience during this necessary work to maintain and improve the transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
