(April 2, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has started construction on a $3.9 million resurfacing and safety improvement project on US 1 Business (Conowingo Road) in the Bel Air area of Harford County. The project is expected to be complete in 2025, weather permitting.

The 1.4-mile project is along US 1 Business between Moores Mill Road and the US 1 Bypass (Hickory Bypass) and includes

• Asphalt pavement milling, patching and resurfacing

• Application of new reflective pavement markings and traffic signs

• Repairs to segments of concrete sidewalks, ramps, gutters and curbs

• Upgrades to traffic signal system equipment

• Upgrades to traffic barriers along the roadway

During construction, single-lane closures and flagging operations will be in effect along US 1 Business during off-peak and overnight periods. Work times may be adjusted pending the project schedule. Contractor Allan Myers MD Inc., of Fallston, will perform the work.

The State Highway Administration appreciates customers' patience during construction as we work to improve Maryland's transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, focused, and be aware of reduced speed limits and changing driving patterns in the work zone. Slow down and move in work zones. It's the law. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for assistance.
