$5.1 Million Project Constructed a New Roadway Surface on the Bridge and Made Structural Improvements

(June 11, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration recently completed construction of a bridge rehabilitation on the MD 75 (Green Valley Rd) bridge over I-70 in New Market, Frederick County. The $5.1 million project included construction of a new bridge deck, applied new paint to the bridge beams, repaired the concrete supports and improved roadway drainage. These improvements help ensure the bridge’s safety for many years to come.

During construction, the four-lane bridge was reduced to two travel lanes for work zone and motorist safety. The bridge is now fully open with two lanes for northbound traffic and two lanes for southbound traffic along with a concrete median. The demolition shield under the bridge over I-70 was removed and the height clearance restored to 17 feet.

The project began construction in 2022 with Greenbridge Construction, Inc. as the primary contractor. The State Highway Administration listed the company in default of the contract in early 2023 because they were unable to meet the schedule requirements. A new contractor, Kibler Construction Company, Inc. based in Finksburg, was selected and work resumed on the project in summer 2023. The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as customers. Motorists are asked to stay alert, stay focused and be aware of reduced speed limits and changing driving patterns. Slow down and move over in work zones. It’s the law.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
