Motorists Can Expect a Single Left-Lane Closure Near MD 36 until Tuesday Morning
(October 2, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will install a new overhead sign that alerts commercial truck drivers of speeds before the steep mountain incline over eastbound I-68 near Frostburg in Allegany County. The overhead electronic sign will be installed starting Monday, October 6 at 4 p.m. Motorists can expect a left-lane closure on
eastbound I-68 near MD 36 (New Georges Creek Road) to the Clarysville Bridge. The work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, weather permitting.
Contractor McLean Contracting Company of Glen Burnie will use the left-lane closure to shift traffic to the right with Maryland State Police guiding traffic through the work zone while sign installation is underway. Crews will also use signs, construction barrels and cones.
The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
