Median Will Be Closed by Monday, November 10

(November 4, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will permanently close the median on MD 390 (16th Street) at Grace Church Road in Silver Spring, Montgomery County at 7 a.m. on Monday, November 10. This closure is necessary as part of the MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) Montgomery Hills Project. The median closure is needed to prohibit left turns at the intersection.

Motorists traveling in both directions on Grace Church Road will only be able to make right turns on 16th Street. Motorists traveling in each direction on 16th Street can turn right onto Grace Church Road or continue straight along 16th Street.

The State Highway Administration appreciates customers’ patience during construction as we work to improve Maryland’s transportation system. The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety and asks drivers to slow down and move over, if possible, in work zones and pay extra attention for pedestrians and bicyclists. Help keep drivers, their passengers and vulnerable highway users safe.
