Temporary Flagging Operation During the Traffic Switch
(December 4, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will perform a traffic switch at the bridge improvement project on MD 135 (Maryland Avenue) bridge over the Little Youghiogheny River near Oakland on Wednesday, December 10. This will change the traffic from the current travel lane to the recently completed lane on the MD 135 at the bridge over the Little Youghiogheny River.
Crews will be using a flagging operation to alternate traffic during the traffic shift. While this work is being conducted, the temporary traffic signals at the project site and at the intersection will be off and a flagging operation will be used to alternate traffic through the work zone. Once the switch has been completed, the traffic signals will be operational again. Motorists can expect this work to take place between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. This should be completed within the hours of work on December 10, weather permitting.
The State Highway Administration’s construction partner, Charles J. Merlo, Inc., of Mineral Point, PA will be performing the work and will use electronic message boards, signs, barrels and cones to notify motorists about the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to stay alert, slow down and focus on driving safely through the work zone. Plan extra time for your commute.
