Expect Ramp Closures 10 p.m. - 5 a.m. March 9-13
(March 5, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will close and detour various ramps at the I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) / I-70 interchange overnight on Monday, March 9 to prepare for bridge painting and cleaning project this spring. The ramp work is expected to be completed by Friday, March 13, weather permitting.
Ramp detours will be in effect between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night, with detour routes posted each night. In case of inclement weather, the schedule is subject to change and overnight work with temporary lane closures and detours will take place on the next possible weeknight (Sunday through Thursday).
Each night, contractor crews will install temporary concrete barriers, temporary tarps and platforms for crews working on the bridges. Later this spring there may also be temporary shoulder closures at any time and there may be overnight single-lane and double-lane closures on I-70 and I-695 in the interchange area.
Overnight Ramp Detours:
- Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 10: Westbound I-70 to Southbound I-695 (Outer Loop), 10 p.m. - 5 a.m.
- Wednesday, March 11: Eastbound I-70 to Northbound I-695 (Inner Loop), 10 p.m. - 5 a.m.
- Thursday, March 12: Westbound I-70 to Southbound I-695 (Outer Loop) 10 p.m. - 5 a.m.
This work is part of an upcoming State Highway Administration contract to clean and paint eight bridges within the I-695/I-70 interchange. The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Reglas Painting, will also use temporary traffic signs and cones to guide motorists through the work zone and posted detour routes.
