Drivers Can Expect Overnight Triple Lane Closures; Plan Extra Travel Time

(April 30, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will complete bridge deck and joint repairs on the southbound I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) bridge over the Amtrak tracks in Prince George’s County beginning Saturday evening, May 2. The bridge repairs should be completed by May 17, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect single, double and triple lane closures Sundays through Thursdays from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. There will also be work on two weekends except for Mother’s Day weekend.

Drivers should plan extra driving time or seek overnight alternate routes until the repairs are completed.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Marksmen Company of Baltimore, will use advance warning area signs, drums and cones as delineation devices to guide drivers safely through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration is  Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
