(April 14, 2011) – Next Saturday April 23, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close a section of MD 68 (Clear Spring Road) near Conococheague Creek north of Williamsport in Washington County to continue removal of debris in the creek beneath the bridge.

Tree branches and other large amounts of debris are wedged beneath the bridge and preventing normal water flow.  The closure of the two-lane road will provide ample room for the equipment being used in the removal.  Closing the two-lane road will allow SHA crews to position a crane on the bridge needed to clear the debris.   The closure will occur between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.; SHA suggests that motorists use the following detour routes:

• Motorists north of the bridge will turn left on Pinesburg Road, right onto Kemps Mill Road, right on MD 63 (Greencastle Pike), right on US 11 (Potomac Street) and back to MD 68.

• Motorists south of the bridge will turn right on US 11, a sharp left onto MD 63, left on Kemps Mill Road, left on Pinesburg Road back to MD 68.

Those who have questions about traffic operations on MD 68, MD 63, US 11, or other State numbered routes in Washington County may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll free at 1-800-760-7138 or via email at SHADistrict6@sha.state.md.us.
