(May 19, 2011) – In southwest Baltimore County, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close and detour the ramps from I-95 to westbound I-695 (Inner Loop) between 11 p.m. tonight and 5 a.m. Friday, May 20.

Overnight I-95 travelers who wish to reach points northwest will be diverted to eastbound I-695 (Outer Loop) via westbound I-695 (toward Towson) to Exit 9 (Hollins Ferry Road).  Travelers will be sent through the Hollins Ferry Road interchange back to westbound I-695.

In case of inclement weather, overnight ramp closures and detours will take place on the next possible weeknight.  SHA advises motorists traveling from I-95 in Baltimore City to I-695 west of Baltimore to plan ahead for extra travel time.

This interchange now has an additional lane along the ramp from southbound I-95 to westbound I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) along with a dedicated lane on the ramp from I-95 northbound to westbound I-695.  These improvements will address the queuing on the ramps during the morning and evening peak travel periods.  Crews will also resurface along westbound I-695 to provide a lane drop prior to the I-95 ramp merge and repairs to the roadside slope along westbound I-695.

SHA’s contractor for the project is Pessoa Construction, Inc. of Fairmount Heights, Maryland.  The project is currently slated for completion in late spring 2011, weather permitting.

Citizens with questions about this project may contact SHA’s District Four Office – Construction Division at 410-229-2420, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367, or by e-mail at shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us.
