(September 10, 2015) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will shift northbound US 29 (Columbia Pike) traffic onto the newly constructed lane in the median between Broken Lane Parkway and MD 175 this weekend, weather permitting. SHA will begin shifting traffic to the new pavement Friday beginning at 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday.

On Saturday night, crews will begin setting concrete barrier to start working on the existing northbound lanes. Crews will work between 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.

During the work on Saturday, SHA will close and detour the ramp from eastbound MD 175 to northbound US 29. This ramp closure will be in effect until crews complete construction of the new ramp alignment, which could be late fall.

SHA will direct motorists to use the westbound MD 175 ramp, merge onto southbound US 29 and then merge onto back to eastbound MD 175.

The project is currently on schedule and should be completed fall 2016. Click here for more information about the overall project.

In addition to this project, drivers may also encounter mobile or short-term work zones. Always expect the unexpected, pay extra close attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it’s a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), stay alert and slow down.  Everyone is at risk.
