(April 4, 2018) – Beginning this coming weekend, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will close two lanes of the inner loop of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) near I-95 in Arbutus, Baltimore County. The lane closures are necessary to repair bridge approaches and joints on the inner loop I-695 Bridge over US 1 (Southwestern Boulevard), Amtrak Railroad and Leeds Avenue.

Work will take place on April 7 and 8, and again on April 14 and 15, between 7 p.m. Saturday until 7 p.m. Sunday each weekend. The I-95 ramp traffic will merge into a single lane. These two lanes (one for I-695 and one for the I-95 ramps) will continue through the work zone near the Westland Boulevard bridge.

In case of inclement weather, the work will be done on the next possible weekend. The entire I-695 bridge project will be complete late-spring.

MDOT SHA strongly advises travelers to plan for extra travel time on northbound I-695 near the I-695/I-95 interchange in southwestern Baltimore County and consider alternate routes during the weekend double lane closures. Each day, more than 200,000 vehicles travel along both directions of I-695 in Arbutus.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
