Bridge Demolition Work Near Fair Hill in Cecil County Requires Closure, Detour for Safety

WHAT: Overnight closure of MD 273 (Telegraph Road) at the Big Elk Creek bridge in northeastern Cecil County.

WHEN: Sunday, October 6 beginning at 7 p.m. and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday morning, October 7.

WHY: As part of the MD 273/Big Elk Creek bridge replacement project the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will remove a pier cap from the east side of the existing bridge. This closure is needed to facilitate safe access to the work site from the westbound lane of the existing bridge. MDOT SHA is replacing the bridge in two phases, constructing one lane at a time while alternating traffic on the other lane via temporary traffic signals.

IMPACTS: This is a full closure of both directions of MD 273 at the bridge. Detour signs will be posted. Motorists can use Appleton Road/MD 316, MD 279 and MD 213. Plan ahead and allow extra time for overnight travel in this area.
