MAJOR WATER MAIN BREAK CLOSES MD 144 (FREDERICK ROAD) IN BALTIMORE COUNTY

MD 144

MD 144

(January 21, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is assisting Baltimore City Department of Public Works with a large-scale water main break in Catonsville. The water main break has damaged MD 144 (Frederick Road) between Ingleside and Mellor avenues. There is currently no time estimation of when any lanes will reopen; the closure will likely extend at least into the evening hours. The City of Baltimore owns and maintains the water utility infrastructure under Frederick Road.

The location of the water main break is near the long-term closure of the outer loop I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) ramp to MD 144. Motorists are encouraged to use US 40 (Baltimore National Pike), MD 372 (Wilkens Avenue) and MD 166 (South Rolling Road) as detours routes. Approximately 20,000 vehicles per day use this section of Frederick Road, so motorists are encouraged to provide additional commuting time.

Customers are urged to check md511.maryland.gov often for updates. MDOT SHA will also regularly update our Facebook and Twitter feeds with any updated traffic information associated with the water main break.
