(January 21, 2021) – Beginning 9 p.m. Sunday, January 24, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will conduct work to set steel beams as part of the project to rehabilitate the Seminary Road bridge over Interstate 495 (Capital Beltway). Crews will work nightly, 9 p.m. through 5 a.m., Sunday evenings to Friday mornings, until all structural steel work is completed by late February.

For the safety of all roadway users, MDOT SHA will conduct intermittent lane closures on the Inner and Outer Loops of I-495 between MD 97 (exit 31, Georgia Avenue), and MD 185 (exit 33, Connecticut Avenue) during work hours.

Crews will close lanes on the following schedule:

  1. One lane at 9 p.m.
  2. Two lanes at 10 p.m.
  3. Three lanes at 11 p.m.

Intermittent total traffic stops of up to 15 minutes on both loops of I-495 within the project limits are also expected. Law enforcement will be present in the work zone to conduct and oversee the traffic stops. For more information about the project, please click HERE.
