(July 6, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is performing emergency work on MD 32 (Patuxent Freeway) near the Burntwoods Road interchange in Howard County.

Utility crews are restoring downed phone lines currently across both directions of MD 32. MDOT SHA’s Dayton Shop is assisting with detours. Traffic in both directions, northbound and southbound, is being diverted to Burntwoods Road and then to MD 97 (Roxbury Mills Road).

Motorists are advised to avoid this area and use an alternative route. The work is expected to be complete by 5 p.m.

MDOT SHA is using cones, electronic signs and barrels to alert motorists about the closure and guide them through the detour route.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers.  Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes.  Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
