One Day Traffic Shift Required as Part of Highway Expansion Project

(August 23, 2021) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will switch traffic on MD 32 (Patuxent Freeway) in Howard County from newly constructed travel lanes to the original travel lanes on Thursday, August 26, to allow crews to safely continue work on the newly constructed lanes. The switch will take place over two nights and will affect the area between Linden Church Road and the MDOT SHA Dayton Shop located at 4401 State Route 32, Dayton, a span of more than one mile.

Crews will use a flagging operation and single-lane closures to switch traffic from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, weather permitting.

The work is part of the $127 million MD 32 Phase II widening project that is constructing an additional travel lane in both directions of MD 32 between Linden Church Road and the I-70 ramps. Work began in 2019 and is expected to be complete in 2022. Learn more about the project HERE.

Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
